Anticoagulated patients are part of our practices. With the increasing use of interventional cardiac procedures, early detection and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and improved diagnosis, there appears to be an increase in the number of patients being prescribed anti-coagulant therapy. Today, more than ever, we should be familiar with the medications that are being used and how to minimize complications associated with an anticoagulated patient.

- This lecture will provide an overview of the common medical conditions requiring anticoagulant therapy
- Participants will become familiar with the commonly used anti-coagulant medications and the mechanism of action of these medications. This includs newer medications such as Xarelto and Pradaxa.
- This presentation will also provide practitioners with guidanc on how to manage an anti-coagulated patient in the dental office.
